Apprentice Artist

The Art in the House program sends an artist team – a lead teaching artist and a younger apprentice artist – to provide arts programming for the K-5 afterschool & summer youth programs of various community service agencies around Columbus.

We are currently seeking an apprentice artist for our program at St. Stephen's Community House in the Linden neighborhood, and the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center in Clintonville.

The apprentice artist position is a great opportunity for a teenager or young adult to explore possible careers in the arts and education. The apprentice artist assists the lead artist with planning and implementing arts programming, and is responsible for completing administrative paperwork (taking attendance, etc.). As it is an apprenticeship, the apprentice will also be expected to occasionally take the lead in designing programming, under the mentorship of the lead artist.

The position is open to students and young artists with backgrounds in any artistic discipline.

The Art in the House program contracts artists for fall, spring and summer program sessions. The position at St. Stephen's is 10 hours a week: nine hours for on-site programming (three days a week), and an extra hour to cover the occasional meetings and events that artists may be asked to participate in outside of their regular schedule. The position at Clintonville-Beechwold is for one day a week; pay covers three hours of programming and one hour for prep/planning/meetings. The apprentice pay is $12/hr.
