Rory Rennick Rory Rennick (magician, storyteller, teaching artist, actor, historical impressions) has been performing professionally for over 15 years. His unique blend of theatrical magic, storytelling, and motivational insight has been amazing, amusing, and inspiring audiences of all ages! He is the first and only magician to regularly host his own family shows at the Funny Bone Comedy Clubs & Restaurants (Columbus, Toledo, Dayton Ohio and Newport, Ky.) He also made an appearance on NBC's America's Got Talent.

PROGRAMS
  • Rory is one of the most requested magicians for libraries in Ohio, with some of the highest reviews and evaluations. His programs are highly interactive and educational. Rory excites the imagination of students, allowing the magic to become a catalyst for critical thinking skills.
  • As a storyteller, Rory often utilizes the art of magic, music, read-aloud, and character portrayal to engage his audiences and highlight educational concepts.
  • Historical programs are carefully researched for accuracy and conforms to current core content goals and standards. Follow up activities include reading, journaling, writing and historic research projects. Rory also performs for museums, historical societies and historic events.

Programs Available

Henry's Box (Grade levels 1-5)

In this popular program Rory Rennick (dressed in period costume) engages in a dramatic reading of Ellen Levine’s, “Henry’s Freedom Box.” The performance includes amazing magic and original music and sound effects. A question and answer period follows the performance. A wooden box is built on site.  A student and/or teacher may be invited to get inside “Henry’s Box.” The show includes a high quality PA system, a professional backdrop and props.  90 minutes are required for load-in and setup.

 

For Schools - Social Studies Standards and Objectives are highlighted (History, Government, Economics and Geography). Some math and science concepts and questions are addressed. Programs are suitable for assemblies or classrooms and can usually be customized to meet state educational standards. Study guides (Grades 2-4) are available for teachers/parents and can be obtained in advance upon request.

Henry "Box" Brown: Thinking Inside and Outside the Box! (Grade levels 5-12)

Learn about one of the greatest escapes from slavery ever recorded, and the mindset of a man who risked death to be free by mailing himself inside a small wooden box! Magician Rory Rennick incorporates a multidisciplinary presentation that is educational, motivational and entertaining. Dressed in period attire, Rory utilizes his background in the social sciences, storytelling, visual and musical arts with amazing theatrical magic. Rory is passionate about sharing his in depth knowledge of the true story of Henry “Box” Brown. Students will learn while being thoroughly entertained. History comes to life in this unique presentation. Thinking Inside and Outside the Box, highlights some Social Studies (American History, American Government, Modern World History, Economics, World Issues, and Geography) objectives. Some math and science concepts and questions are addressed. Programs are suitable for assemblies or classrooms and can usually be customized to meet state educational standards.
