Measuring Student Growth in the Arts

Educators have always measured student growth in subjects like math, science, and reading. After all, high-quality assessments are an integral part of measuring and monitoring student growth. High-quality vendor assessments for the arts are not currently available, leaving arts educators to develop measures on their own, often without adequate assessment literacy. To fill that need, The Ohio Arts Assessment Collaborative, a consortium of arts educators, created an innovative suite of authentic assessments to measure student growth for K–12 dance, drama/theatre, music, and visual arts.  Learn more.

On April 12, 2016, the Senate Education Committee will hear testimony on SB241 regarding the employment of teachers in fine arts, music, physical education, and school counselors, school social workers, school nurses, and library media specialists in public schools.  (The former five of eight rule.)
