The Ohio Alliance for Arts Education (OAAE) has worked to promote and develop arts education in Ohio's schools for four decades. In 1989, under the direction of Dr. Roberta Newcomer, OAAE conducted its first survey of arts education in Ohio's public schools; that survey was replicated in 1996, and from the two OAAE was able to see the changes in arts education that had taken place over a seven-year period. In 2000 OAAE, in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Department of Education, and with the support of Ohio education and arts education associations, facilitated a new survey: Status of Arts Education in Ohio's School Districts. The survey provided data, trends, and insights into the strengths and challenges of arts education programs in Ohio's schools and suggested future direction arts education might take. In 2005, in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council, OAAE surveyed arts education in Ohio's public school districts a fourth time.
In 2010, in continued partnership with the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Department of Education, OAAE conducted its fifth survey on the status of arts education in Ohio schools. Click here to download the report.
