J.D. Williamson

PBS and Award Winning Artsbridge Storyteller, Author, Singer and Cartoonist J.D. Williamson will amaze and astound your students with his humorous and zany educational entertainment programs. J.D. includes with each live show his audience participation, humor, games and interactive fun called "learning with laughter." His programs are custom made for all ages by content and vocabulary levels that are matched to your curriculum. He also creates custom made shows upon request as seen below for his past school assemblies.

J.D Draws, sings and tell stories, while including your students own interests, such as their favorite animal, sport, character or hobby with each drawing and story by Improvisation The images are all created from any scribble, shapes or randomly connected dots they make on his easel. At the same time J.D. includes the educational topic and theme that you may select for each show.

His popular school show assembly topics such as Ohio History with True and Tall Heroes, The Reading Express with Johann Gutenberg or Character Counts and Manners Matter keep J.D.in demand for school show assemblies. Schools may select a combination of topics and theme programs for each grade if they wish. All year round he also presents at summer reading library shows, festivals and fairs and conventions as a full time performing and studio artist.

J.D. authored and presented his stories and artwork for a WOUB Athens PBS program called "Read It, Write It, Tell It! " - a series about famous Ohioans. He created the stories artwork and backdrop for the show.

He graduated from Berea College with a bachelor of fine arts by working his way through school as an artist with the school labor program and by freelancing in the local community.

Sensational stories presented about famous Ohioans from history. True and tall tales are both available. Stories presented will be rooted in foundational U.S. documents, as well as seminal works of American literature. Key vocabulary words will be defined both verbally and visually in art and writing. Highly adaptable for each reading level. A fun, interactive show about Ohio history, heritage and culture.

The Reading Express: Meet Johann Gutenberg! (Grade levels K-6)

The inventor of moveable type greets the audience as he comes to life to emcee all the fantastic reading texts of your choice. Presentations will focus on reading, writing and speaking grounded in evidence from texts both literary and informational. Students may be left with a cliffhanger, and encouraged to read the rest on their own. Key vocabulary words will be defined verbally and visually in art and writing. Highly adaptable for each reading level.

Anti-Bullying Programs: Character Counts and Manners Matter (Grade levels K-6)

Personal accountability for actions that affect ourselves and others are displayed in a fun story format specialized for each age group. Both short and long lasting results are displayed in a thought provoking way to cover the seriousness of the subject, and to inspire students to reach their full potential as persons and citizens that stand for honor and integrity.

The importance of growing Self Control through Service, Sacrifice and Selflessness are explained and emphasized, as well as door opening Words of Opportunity and Bridge Builder moments such as "Thank You, Please, I'm Sorry and Excuse Me."

Thomas Nast: Civil War Artist (Grade levels K-6)

Responsible for popularizing the Donkey and Elephant as political symbols, and creator of our modern image of Santa Claus, Thomas Nast was a hugely influential cartoonist whose work is often credited for bringing down the leader of the corrupt Tammany Hall group in nineteenth-century New York City. His life and artwork are discussed.

The Secret of Silence Dogwood: America's First Editorial Cartoonist (Grade levels K-6)

Meet Ben Franklin, who as a young man wrote secret editorials and was America's first editorial cartoonist, speaking out against the King's tyranny to unite the colonies in their fight for independence.

The outline of a country becomes the face of a man or woman of historical importance to that nation as it's stories of the ages are revealed.

Geometry (Grade levels K-6)

Gaspard Monge' was an engineer for Napoleon's army when he devised a unique way to represent three dimensional items as two dimensional drawings. His work, kept a military secret for many years, is the basis of modern orthographic projection, a system used by architects, builders, draftsman and game designers to describe the world.
